NGC 1532 lies in the southern hemisphere Fornax group of galaxies. It is most likely a barred spiral galaxy, seen nearly edge-on. It has several surrounding dwarf galaxies and one large larger one above it, with which NGC 1532 is gravitationally interacting. That interaction (and probably several others to a lesser degree) have distorted NGC 1532 and exacted streamers of stars above it and distorted one of its spiral arms off to the right in this image.

This image is only about 30% of the full-frame image as NGC 1532 subtends a mere 13x3 arc minutes, according to Wikipedia, but has a measured length somewhat greater in this image.
